Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patruda has called for major legislative reforms, including a no-pay policy for legislators and the introduction of the right to appeal. On Monday, during the celebrations of the 77th Republic at the State Assembly premises, he emphasized that legislatures are the heart of democracy and must reflect the aspirations of the people.
The Speaker proposed that the legislatures meet for a minimum of 60 sitting days per year to ensure meaningful debates and effective lawmaking. He urged the elected representatives to maintain the dignity of the House and work for the development of Amaravati and the Polavaram project. He also reminded government employees to remain committed to the constitution while delivering social programmes.
Legislative Council Speaker Koyye Moshenu Raju described the Constitution of India as the supreme text that guarantees freedom and equality. Thanked Dr. BR Ambedkar for his visionary role in preparing the document and urged citizens to exercise their constitutional rights to maintain social harmony.
