The NDA government led by Andhra Pradesh has decided to extend the maximum working hours from nine to ten a day to increase the ease of business and attract more investments in the state.
The Minister of Information and Public Relations (I & PR) to PARTHASARATHY announced that working laws would be modified to be more “more favorable” for workers and investors.
The State Secretary of the CPI to Ramakrishna criticized this decision and accused NDA governments at both the centers and the level of state policies of “anti-workers”.
“Section 54, which allows a maximum of nine hours of work a day, has now been raised to 10 hours a day. According to Section 55, one hour was now for five hours (work), which was changed to six hours,” Pardhsarathy recently explained, describing the cabinet decision on labor reform in detail.
Previously, overtime was limited to 75 hours per quarter; This limit has now been extended to 144 hours.
“For this reason, investors will be in factories (will come to our state). These working rules will be favorable to the workers and will be more invested. Globalization is happening in every state. These changes have been brought to implement global rules,” Partharathy added.
The minister also stressed that the cabinet has released night shift regulations to allow more women to work during these hours.
According to PARTHASARATHY, women were previously banned night shifts, but now they can work with warranty such as consent, transport facilities, safety and supervision.
He stressed that the workplace for women during night shifts must be fully illuminated.
“When you work extra, revenue will increase. According to these rules, women can work in a formal sector. They empower women economically and promote gender integration and industrial growth. They also contribute to strengthening the position of women,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State Secretary of the CPI to Ramakrishn vehemently opposed changes and claimed that central and state governments were undermining the rights of workers.
“Over the past 11 years, the government has repeatedly taken measures that violate workers’ rights in India,” Ramakrishna told PTI on Saturday.
To attack new rules, trade unions planned protests throughout India 9 July with active participation expected from all sectors.
He further noted that the NDA government at the center and state level is monitored by “politicians against workers”.
