
Six migrant Odisha workers were killed and at least three others were injured after a massive granite rock at the quarry in the Bapatla district in Bapatla Andhra Pradesh fell on Sunday.
According to the police, there was an accident around 10:30, when 10 to 15 workers were involved in mining work.
Chief Minister Odisha Mohan Charan Maran Majhi expressed grief over the accident and announced ex gratia £4 Lakh for other relatives of every deceased.
“All victims come from Odisha. We suspect that water leakage has caused the rock to retreat. Forensic teams are investigating,” police official Andhra Pradesh PTI said, adding that there were no explosions or seismic activities.
Rescue operations were immediately launched, while the ministry of the ministry of the mining department joined the police on the spot, he said.
The Ganjam district in Odish went to the Bapatly Ballicrava area in the neighboring state to bring back the bodies of six migrating workers, said a higher official in Berhampura.

“Excent Ex Gratia announced £4 Lakh from the Fund of the Auxiliary Minister (CMRF) to another relative of every deceased, ”added CMO.
Collector Ganjam Keerthi Vasan V said that a team led by Taasildar Digapahandim continued to the accident site to bring back the bodies of the deceased to their birthplace.
“I have already talked to the collector Bapatla about the accident and the status of injured ODIA workers,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased workers would be handed over to the Odisha team after the postmortal tests, he said.
“We got all the measures on our part to bring the bodies to Odisha,” the collector said.
Meanwhile, Main Minister Andr Pradesh N Chandrababu Naida expressed his sorrow over the tragedy.
“I talked to the officials, ordered them to give the advisor the best possible medical treatment and order a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident,” Nida said in the edition.
YSRCP chief Yagan Mohan Reddy expressed sadness in the accident.
“That’s really heartbreaking. These workers have lost their lives while they set out for their families,” Reddy said in the edition.
He called on the government to ensure medical care of those who were injured in an accident and to provide immediate support and assistance to families of the deceased.
Government official Odisha claimed that at least eight ODIA workers suffered injuries in an accident and underwent treatment in various hospitals in Andra Pradesh.
When the rock collapsed, at least 16 workers worked in the quarry, he said.
