Andhra CM Naidu tells MLAs to stay close to people and address grievances quickly

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) National President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday asked party MLAs and public representatives to adopt best governance practices, stay connected with people and proactively address long-standing issues in their respective constituencies.

Addressing a leadership conclave on governance and public services at the TDP office in Mangalagiri, Mr Naidu said some constituencies were providing better services to citizens and urged all the 175 assembly constituencies to emulate the same.

The government was forgoing nearly ₹1,000 crore in revenue annually by providing sand to the people free of cost, Mr. Naidu said and directed officials to prevent sand from being diverted to other states. “Sand reach should be carefully monitored,” he said.

Referring to the liquor policy, Mr. Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of distorting the system and promoting fake brands, claiming that 30,000 people had lost their lives. “Our government has made the sale transparent,” he said.

With the liquor tenders nearing completion, existing outlets would be revived but retailers would not be allowed to sell liquor even ₹1 above the MRP, the chief minister said. He warned that strict action would be taken in case of any irregularities, adding that the MLAs were responsible for setting things right in their constituencies.

Mr. Naidu asked party leaders to counter false propaganda with facts and use technology to reach out to people.

He instructed the MLAs to urgently address pressing issues in the constituencies instead of waiting for complaints. He pointed out that land disputes account for a major share of public complaints and directed officials to complete the cleanup of land records across the state by March 2027.

Mr. Naidu called for effective redressal of complaints received through the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS), with complaints being monitored from the field level to the state level.

“A political leader should stay close to the people. Even voice messages can help maintain contact. Responding to people’s problems with humanity will create a positive perception,” he said.

He said policymakers should consider the aspirations of Gen Z and anticipate the economic conditions and challenges likely to emerge in a decade. Health, education and housing should be key priorities to improve the quality of life, he said.

Referring to the issues raised in the previous leadership meeting, Mr. Naidu said the government had approved 616 works worth ₹20,400 crore in all 175 constituencies after reviewing the proposals.
