Anbumani seeks white paper on CMDA ‘crisis’

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday demanded that the Tamil Nadu government release a white paper on the financial situation and functioning of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), alleging that the planning authority was pushed into a financial crisis and was unable to pay even salary payments without government assistance.

Dr. In his statement, Anbumani referred to reports that the CMDA had demanded ₹200 crore from the state government to pay salaries and meet immediate expenses. According to him, the government should explain how the organization, which has operated as a financially self-sufficient body since its foundation in 1972, reached such a state.

He claimed that the CMDA’s financial situation worsened after it was forced to undertake infrastructure projects instead of focusing on its core function of granting building permits.

While Chennai required major infrastructure development, Dr. Anbumani said such works should have been done by the state government and the Greater Chennai Corporation and not by the CMDA. He further alleged that the infrastructure contracts awarded through the CMDA during the previous DMK government involved irregularities.
