Anbuman bats for 100% caste representation

PMK Chairman Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday renewed calls for the introduction of 100% caste proportional representation on the occasion of the centenary of the introduction of 100% communal representation through the Government’s Communal Order (No. 1071).

In a statement Dr. Anbumani said that although the representation has been increased to 69%, the struggle for social justice is still not over.

“The 100% reservation policy was subsequently extended to central government offices in the Madras Presidency in 1935 and continued until the Madras High Court delivered its verdict in the Champakam Doraijan case in 1950. Subsequently, after the First Amendment to the Constitution of India in 1951, a new reservation system was introduced which started with 25% reservation for Backward Classes and a total of 18% Casting 41%. has now increased to 69%,” he said, adding, “What is prevailing in Tamil Nadu today is not complete social justice.

Dr. Anbumani further said, “It is commendable that after accepting the demand raised by the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced that a social justice survey will be conducted in Tamil Nadu and a commission will soon be constituted for the purpose. Further steps are also urgently needed to implement this decision.”
