“This journey has not been easy not only for me, but for my family as well. It took time to understand, accept and stand by me. It was not instant. There were moments of confusion, questions and growth for all of us. But today, as I stand here, I am filled with nothing but gratitude,” Anaya wrote in the caption.
She also emphasized her father’s role during this phase.
“Having my father by my side in one of the most important moments of my life means everything. His support didn’t come overnight, but when it did, it was real, unconditional and strong. This surgery was a big step for me, but having him with me made it possible. Growth takes time. Love takes time. But when it comes, it’s worth everything. Grateful. Always,” she added.
ANAYA BANGAR’S TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY
Anayana’s journey has taken shape over the past few years as she gradually embraced her identity as a transgender woman. Assigned male at birth and formerly known as an Aryan, she was previously involved in cricket, following in her father’s footsteps, featuring in age-group squads including the Mumbai Under-16 Tests, Pondicherry Under-19 Tests and Mumbai Under-23 Tests.
Her transition became more public in 2023 when she started hormone replacement therapy (HRT), she shared parts of the process on social media. While this brought a sense of personal clarity, it also brought challenges, particularly in cricket, where physical changes affected her ability to compete at the same level.
In a recent interaction with India Today’s sister platform Lallantop, Anaya spoke openly about the journey, touching on the support she received as well as the difficult moments she encountered, including cases of harassment in the sports area.
