Anantapur will host a conference on drought, natural farming on June 17

Accion Fraterna-Ecology Center in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh will organize a one-day conference and exhibition on “Drought, climate change and farmers’ experiences of subsistence farming” on Wednesday (June 17, 2026) to mark the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.

AF Ecology Center Director YV Malla Reddy told reporters on Monday (June 15, 2026) that the program will be held at Integrated RDT High School, Y-Junction, Kadiri Road, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Nearly 500 participants are expected.

Dr. Malla Reddy said Anantapur district has long faced recurring droughts, land degradation and climate variability. “The aim of the conference is to bring together farmers, scientists, government officials, voluntary organizations and development experts to discuss sustainable solutions and share successful experiences in organic and climate-resilient agriculture,” he said.

A special exhibition will showcase natural farming models, watershed development work, agricultural technology, machinery and other sustainable practices that help farmers conserve resources and improve livelihoods.

District Collector O. Anand will visit the exhibition and address the gathering. Conservator of Forests R. Yasoda Bai, Territorial DFO T. Chakrapani and DFO Social Forestry Guru Prabhakar will also attend.

Dr. Malla Reddy called for collective action to address drought, desertification and climate change through sustainable agricultural systems and community participation. He invited farmers, researchers and civil society groups to participate.
