Anantapur district saw a significant drop in crime by 22.5 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year. While 8,841 crimes were registered in 2024, this year the number dropped to 6,851.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh attributed the drop in crime to effective policing and prioritizing public safety. The SP said 530 cases were registered and 50 percent (₹3,63,55,170) of the lost property was recovered in 2024, while 55% (₹5,15,34,098) of the lost property was recovered in 2025 out of a total of 527 cases. “This has only been possible through the increased use of technology,” he said.
Similarly, there has been a decrease in cases of chain kidnappings and murders for profit. Mr. Jagadeesh said the number of murder cases has decreased from 57 in 2024 to 42 in 2025. “The main reasons for these murders were petty quarrels, jealousy and family and property conflicts,” he said. Similarly, the number of attempted murder cases decreased from 66 last year to 59 in 2025. “Kidnapping cases increased slightly from 28 to 31, while overall crime decreased by 7 percent,” he said.
The SP said special attention was given to curbing crimes against women and saw a decline in 2025. “While 733 cases were reported last year, this year it was 644. Female homicides have decreased by 56 percent, from 18 last year to eight this year,” he said.
Mr. Jagadeesh said there has also been a decline in POCSO cases from 83 in 2024 to 71 in 2025. “Awareness programs have been conducted in educational institutions and villages in collaboration with the local police on the use of the Shakti app, women protection laws, child marriage and other issues,” he said.
Meanwhile, in 2025, 836 cases of missing persons were registered and 613 cases were solved by the police, while 223 cases could not be traced till now, the SP said.
The district also reported a 9 percent decrease in the number of fatal and non-fatal traffic accidents — from 544 in 2024 to 496 in 2025. “While 343 people died in accidents last year, 291 deaths were recorded this year. The number of injuries also decreased by 15 percent, from 55.5, leading to a reduction in the number of traffic accidents to 6,552 people. traffic awareness accidents and their consequences, imposition of fines for offences, focus on reducing driving under the influence of alcohol and others,” he said.
