Analysis of dust hazards, a key part for ensuring industrial safety, where flammable dust can be missing in the control list of the industry control factory.
Experts attributed an explosion in Sigachi Industries in Pashamylaram, which recently claimed 42 lives of what they called, “explosion of dust” due to excessive temperature during the dryer process.
Analysis of dust hazards is carried out for identification, analysis and designing measures to alleviate risks associated with flammable dust in industries. The analysis is important for the industry involved in the production of chemicals, metals and drugs.
“There is no provision on the analysis of the risk of dust in the inspection of the factory Inspection.
The inspection report of the Sigachi factory factory in December 2024 pointed to several drops in the factory, including lack of fire outputs. According to the report, the number of exits from Machinera Hall is insufficient. A recommendation for its provision without obstacles has been issued. The firefighting equipment was insufficient and all workers were not trained in firefighters. On the electric panels, a thick rubber mat or insulation was not provided, and the electrical cabling was not laid in the permanent pipes to avoid the danger to the workers. The report noted that free and temporary electrical wiring was found in the factory.
Personal protective equipment, such as safety belts, helmets, safety boots, glasses, masks and gloves, are not provided for workers or any safety training for them. The Ministry recommended adequate training on preliminary employment and periodic security for all workers, including contracts and occasional workers. The provision of automatic fire extinguishers, fire resistant shock absorbers, electrically connected heat/smoke detectors, were other safety recommendations.
The report also recorded the unhygienic conditions, the absence of a health center and a medical officer and even a first aid box in the factory. Insufficient washing of equipment for workers and absence of shelter/toilets for workers was marked.
“The factory has existed for more than 35 years, but it has not provided the basic minimum equipment needed for the sectors. The department normally issues insights reports and issues recommendations according to the relevant sections of the factory Act, but does not accept any steps against violations,” says Mr. Babu Rao.
