There was a light-hearted moment at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) press conference when Jacob Oram burst into laughter after being asked about Rilee Rossouw’s recent comment that the Indian Premier League (IPL) feels “more like a movie than real cricket”.
The incident occurred after Hyderabad Kingsmen beat Islamabad United by six wickets in Karachi, but the post-match discussion quickly shifted to the growing IPL vs PSL debate.
Rossouw previously compared the two leaguespointing out key differences in structure and intensity.
“Both leagues have their pros and cons. The IPL is a very long tournament and the PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is much fiercer. Of course, the IPL has all of Bollywood behind it, so it’s much more of a movie than actual cricket,” said Rossouw.
When this remark was put to Oram, the Islamabad United assistant coach reacted with visible amusement.
“Did you say like from a movie?” he said with a laugh before sharing his own take on the comparison.
Another day, another question about IPL in PSL 2026.
This is getting embarrassing, how hard is it to ask journalists not to cover IPL?

“They are similar tournaments but they are very different. This is twice as long as the IPL,” he added.
Oram, who played in the IPL during his career, said the league has grown significantly over the years.
“I didn’t coach in the IPL. I played in the IPL and that was a long time ago and it grew into a bit of a monster,” he said.
Speaking about his current role in the PSL, Oram said he enjoyed his first coaching stint in Pakistan.
“This is my first opportunity in the PSL and I’m loving it. The Islamabad United group, from the staff to the players, have been so accommodating. We’ve been well looked after, so far we’ve been well looked after.”
However, he also drew attention to the lack of spectators this season.
“I’d love to have the crowds here for the vibe and atmosphere,” he said.
The PSL 2026 season is being held in Lahore and Karachi without spectators due to the recent rise in oil prices. The tournament, which was originally planned to span six cities, was also canceled.
The IPL comparison came up several times during the season. Kusal Mendis also faced an unpleasant question at a separate press conference. He was asked if he regretted leaving PSL 2025 and later went unsold in the IPL auction after joining Gujarat Titans as a replacement.
Mendis, who quit the PSL due to security concerns, joined the Titans as a temporary replacement for Jose Buttler for INR 75 lakh and played in the Eliminator, which his team lost. He answered the question with a laugh before the media manager stepped in.
At times like these, the IPL vs PSL debate continues to garner attention, both on and off the web
