When David Miller stepped out to bat against RCB, memories of April 8 must have surfaced. That night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, he took Delhi Capitals to the brink of victory with a tremendous effort, battling injuries and pressure. But instead of a fight, it was one decision that stole the headlines – denying Kuldeep Yadav a single in the final.
RCB vs DC: Scorecard | Highlighting
Support and criticism came in equal measure, but for Miller, the moment ran much deeper. It left him emotionally shaken.
So when DC found themselves needing 41 runs from the last four overs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, fate gave Miller another chance at redemption.
The beginning was far from ideal. He crawled to six runs off his first six balls and with DC needing 15 off the last over, the first two deliveries yielded just two runs.
13 needs 4 balls.
At that point all Chinnaswamy backed Romario Shepherd to seal it for RCB. But then came vintage David Miller – or rather, Killer Miller.
Two towering sixes off the next two deliveries at once brought the score level. This time there will be no hesitation, no arguing, no rehash of old scars. Miller decided that neither was needed. He broke the line to seal the win and stood there, emotional, soaked in a moment that felt as personal redemption as it did a win for DC.
Speaking after the matchThe DC batter admitted that it feels weird to be back in a similar situation and finally get it right.
“It was good to get back in that position after a few games and it’s even better to get over the line,” Miller said.
DEMONS LIE IN THE MIND?
Miller was asked if the ghosts of that clash with GT still play in his mind. The South African, known for speaking candidly and from the heart, admitted he had – but this time he came prepared, having worked on his execution and clarity in those pressured moments.
“It’s always going to be in the back of your mind until you win the next game. It’s been a couple of games, so I’ve been working on a few things – mainly trying to stay within my limits and execute better. That six ball I hit last time will always stick with me, but I’m really glad we did it today,” Miller said.
For Miller, the formula in the death overs was simple – stay calm, trust the process and maintain clear communication with your batting partner.
“To be honest, we always try to finish it early if we can. But when it goes deep, you know you have to take the last few overs. We knew if we could get a couple of sixes – like a six followed by a four or another six – we would put the bowlers under pressure. It was about limiting the balls and taking opportunities on the boundary. The key was to stay together, pace and communicate with the partner.”
THESE THINGS COME AND GO
But the pain of that GT defeat still lingers in him? Miller reminded everyone that cricket, like life, is about learning to live with triumph and heartbreak.
He came in with a calm perspective—a perspective shaped by years of experience, pressure, and perspective.
“Yeah, it feels good. But like I said, these things come and go – you ride highs and lows. Hopefully I can contribute and stay on the right side more often,” Miller said.
Delhi Capitals will happily take it for now. And for Miller, it wasn’t just another finish — it was closure.
DC will next travel to Hyderabad to take on SRH on April 21.
