A crisis management committee has been constituted in Ernakulam district to overcome the ongoing crisis in the cooking gas distribution sector. The committee is chaired by District Collector G. Priyanka, with District Supply Officer SR Smitha serving as convener.
A committee that met at the Collectorate at the Kakkanad Civil Station to assess the problems in the cooking gas sector informed that while the distribution of cylinders for domestic use was going on smoothly, the supply of cylinders for commercial use was restricted.
Cylinder booking will be allowed through www.lpgtrackerkerala.in application only. Applicants must submit their requests by providing the consumer number, agency name, facility name, and a brief description of the facility. Applications not containing these details will be rejected, an official release said.
Of the 3,296 requests received at the district dispatch center for the availability of pressure cylinders, 1,412 were resolved. A total of 1,884 applications are pending which did not record essential details such as consumer number.
Hospitals, retirement homes, children’s homes, community kitchens, educational institutions, public sector institutions and public crematoria will have priority in the distribution of commercial pressure cylinders.
Nine inspection squads have been deployed to prevent black marketing and hoarding of cooking gas cylinders. The meeting also informed that steps are being taken to introduce PNG (piped natural gas) system as an alternative to LPG.
