The Kollam city police launched a dedicated anti-drug drive on Sunday as a proactive step to curb the drug menace in the coastal belts. The operation targeted 12 key locations under Pallithottam police station limits. Authorities have stepped up surveillance across the region to prevent a potential increase in narcotics trafficking and consumption during the upcoming Christmas and New Year season. The operation was conducted on the instructions of District Superintendent of Police Kiran Narayanan and led by Kollam ACP Shareef S and Pallithottam Inspector Shafeeq. The special unit comprised a 40-member force, including DANSAF units from Kollam, Chathannur and Karunagapally sub-divisions, dog squads and female officers from several stations.
The crackdown is a key part of ‘Mukthyodayam’, the city police’s comprehensive anti-drug action plan. The district police chief emphasized that strict enforcement will continue in the coming days to eradicate drug abuse in the district.
