Practice pilot was killed when the coaching aircraft belonging to the private aviation academy crashed in the residential area in the Amreli district in Gujarat on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) in the afternoon and lit fire, the police official said.
The plane fell on the tree before it hit the open land.
The aircraft landed in the residential area in the Giriya Road area in Amreli around 12:30 for unknown reasons and killed a pilot on the spot, said Amreli Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kharat.
The pilot flew solo. The plane took off from Amreli Airport, he added.
After crashing near the Shastri Nagar area, the plane aroused and absorbed the flames, Mr. Kharat said.
“After taking off from Amreli Airport with a male trainee pilot, a coaching aircraft of the Aviation Academy, which operates from the airport, crashed into a residential area. The practicing pilot that flew solo died in the crash while the aircraft was gutted in flames.”
He said that the Aviation Academy based in Delhi provides pilot training from Amreli Airport.
SP said that the local police launched the process of filing the case of accidental death and investigation to find out the exact cause of the accident.
Four teams of the local fire brigade rushed to Shastrinagar when they learned of the aircraft crash and the resulting fire on the plane, said firefighter SC Gadhvi.
“Although the aircraft crashed into the residential area, no one else was injured because it fell on the tree first and then hit an open land. The fire was finally under control of our teams,” he said.
