The forest department has announced that safari operations in the Amrabad Tiger Reserve will remain suspended from January 20 to 25 due to the ongoing All India Tiger Estimation 2026 exercise.
The exercise to count tigers and other carnivores involves 139 regular forest staff and 150 external staff, besides 170 dedicated volunteers who will work in 253 shifts at the sanctuary, Project Tiger field director Sunil Hiremath said in a statement.
Over the past few years, the number of tiger sightings in the Amrabad Tiger Reserve has increased and since October last year, there have been nearly 50 sightings. The three immersive circuits – Farhabad Safari, Gundam Safari, Akkamahadevi Caves Safari – have been running for several years and the new 20-km Kollam Safari was recently completed, the note said.
