
The condition of at least two of the 10 patients who are currently undergoing the treatment of amoebic meningoencephalitis in the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, is reported to be serious.
However, sources said both patients have existing health problems or co -morbidity. One of them is reported to suffer from cirrhosis of the liver and the other has meningitis. Of the 10 patients, two children are treated at the Institute of Mother’s Health and a Child attached to the hospital. Two other patients, a 52 -year -old woman from Vengar in Malappuram and a three -month -old Omassery child in Kozhikod, died in the hospital between 31 and 1 September in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Forests and wildlife Ak Sasendran assigned 8 GBP Lakh to buy a phase contrast microscope that increases the visibility of the sample for the microbiology department. It was said that a photo -ricrograph device would help diagnose the infection faster to start medical treatment first. Although the National Medical Commission orders that all microbiology departments should have this microscope, the required numbers are not available in Kozhikode MCH, they will learn.
