Barely hours after her colleagues from the film industry and members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) leveled serious allegations against her on Saturday, including communal polarization and corporate-political nexus, Shwetha Menon tried to put up a brave face, claiming that her decision to remain AMMA president has the backing of superstars Mammootty and Mohanl.

In a Facebook post under the banner ‘Satyameva Jayate’, Ms Menon expressed her gratitude to the superstars and AMMA members who stood by her and urged her not to resign and remain steadfast in her stand. She said the alleged attempt to “hijack the section” of AMMA by exploiting the disputes within the organization was thwarted by the court’s intervention.

In an afterword, Ms. Menon took a swipe at “10 or 15 people” who, she claimed, “tried to slip through the back door.” It is the majority of members — not a handful of individuals — who decide how AMMA should operate, she said.

“Those who want to be part of the AMMA committee should do so by running in elections like we do, rather than trying to enter through the back door,” her post concluded.

However, Ms. Menon did not respond to several serious allegations leveled earlier in the day by fellow actors, including Ansiba Hassan, Maala Parvathy and Usha Haseen.
