Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata on Friday morning (May 8, 2026) to attend the BJP legislature party meeting to elect its leader and the swearing-in ceremony of the party’s first government in West Bengal.
Mr. Shah was received at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari among others.

He went from the airport to a hotel in Nové Město.
In the afternoon, Mr Shah will attend a meeting of the BJP legislature party at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
He will attend the swearing-in ceremony at the Brigade Parade Ground on Saturday along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Nitin Nabin and chief ministers of all NDA-ruled states.
The BJP registered a historic victory in the just-held assembly elections, ending the TMC’s 15-year rule and handing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee one of the biggest setbacks of her political career.
Governor RN Ravi dissolved the assembly on Thursday, paving the way for the formation of a new government.
