As United States President Donald Trump faces scrutiny of his own ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the Justice Department said Friday, Nov. 14, that it will investigate the pedophile financier’s ties to Bill Clinton and JPMorgan at the president’s request. It comes after Donald Trump said he would ask Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to investigate Epstein’s “involvement and relationship” with Clinton and others.
In addition to Bill Clinton, the Justice Department has also been asked to investigate JP Morgan and Chase, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman.
In a social media post, Donald Trump said: “Epstein was a Democrat and he is a Democrat problem not a Republican problem! Everyone knows about him, don’t waste your time with Trump. I have a country to run!”
The decision comes just two days after a congressional panel released thousands of documents that raise new questions about Trump’s own ties to Epstein, another instance in which the former president has urged federal agencies to target his perceived political enemies.
“This is another Russia, Russia, Russia scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats,” the Republican president wrote, referring to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian interference in Trump’s 2016 election victory over Bill Clinton’s wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Pam Bondi shared an update on Donald Trump’s request, saying that Jay Clayton, the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, will lead the investigation into Bill Clinton’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
There has been a call for the Trump administration to release the Epstein files. Many Trump voters believe that Bondi and other Trump officials covered up Epstein’s ties to powerful figures and covered up the details surrounding his suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019.
When asked Friday if he should order such an investigation, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One: “I’m the top law enforcement officer in the country. I’m allowed to.”
