Emma Raducana’s 2025 campaign came to an early end after a difficult first-round exit at the Ningbo Open, marking another chapter in her ongoing battle with health issues during the Asian swing.
In Ningbo Raducan, she lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to local wild Zhu Lin, who required medical attention twice during the competition – once to check her blood pressure and the second time for back treatment. The setback followed a stressful episode in Wuhan a week earlier, where she was forced to retire while for Ann Li 6-1, 4-1, citing dizziness and a medical timeout on the court.
The pattern was disturbing: Raducanu’s body clearly signaled fatigue and strain. Following the Ningbo defeat, reports from the British press confirmed that he would pull out of his remaining events in Tokyo and Hong Kong, effectively bringing the curtain down on his 2025 season.
Despite this abrupt end, Raducan’s year still had encouraging moments. She recorded 28 match wins, enjoyed a superb quarter-final run at the Miami Open – her strongest showing at the top level since capturing the 2021 US Open crown – and also reached the semi-finals in Washington. Steady progress has moved her world ranking up to 29th place and she is heading to the Asian circuit.
At the end of the season, Raducanu’s immediate priority will be rest and rehabilitation. She is expected to continue working under Spanish coach Francisco Roig in preparation for the 2026 season. A productive injury-free off-season could prove crucial in helping her regain full fitness, regain her stamina and return to competition stronger than before.
This failure so far underlines the physical demands of elite tennis. Raducanu’s skills and fighting spirit remain unquestioned, but the coming months will be vital – not only for her recovery, but also for her to regain the consistency and resilience needed to compete regularly at the sport’s highest level again.
– The end
