America’s war on Iran LIVE: US President Donald Trump appears to be questioning how effective the ceasefire is at stopping the war in Iran.
Iran-US war LIVE: What happened in the last few hours?
- “Iran is doing a very bad job, some would say dishonest, of allowing oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote on his social network Thursday night. “That’s not our deal!” The post came after Trump earlier posted that “There are reports that Iran is charging tankers going through the Strait of Hormuz – they better not be, and if they are, they should stop now!”
- Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei sid: “We did not seek war and we do not want it,” adding: “But under no circumstances will we give up our legitimate rights and in this regard we consider the entire resistance front as a whole,” in an apparent allusion to Lebanon, where Israel is fighting Tehran’s ally Hezbollah, AFP reported.
- The de facto closure of the strait caused oil prices to soar, affecting the price of gasoline, food and other basic commodities far beyond the Middle East. The spot price of Brent crude, the international standard, was around $98 on Thursday, up 35% since the start of the war, the AP reported.
- Lebanon’s health ministry said more than 300 people were killed and more than 1,100 wounded Wednesday in Israeli strikes on central Beirut and other areas of Lebanon that Israel said targeted Hezbollah, which has joined the war in support of Tehran.
- Early Friday morning, Israel’s military said it had hit about 10 launchers in Lebanon that fired rockets into northern Israel on Thursday.
