Air India AI171 Flame Crash: The head of an American lawyer representing the Flight of Air India AI171, a tragedy, submitted an application for freedom of information (FOIA) in the United States and sought access to the recorder for flights.
Mike Andrews, a main lawyer acting on behalf of most affected families, claims that the appearing evidence supports alternative theory: that the drinking water system leakage could cause a catastrophic short -circuit, leading to the loss of both engines shortly after take -off than any incorrect aircraft.

The AI171 crash killed 260 in one of the deadliest air disasters in India
12th June years Air India AI171 took off from the international airport Ahmedabad Sardar VallaBhbhai patel for London, but crashed within 90 seconds after leaving.
The devastating accident claimed 260 lives, including 229 passengers, 12 crew members and 19 people on Earth. The Indian Air Investigation Office later revealed in its preliminary report that both engines of the aircraft unexpectedly closed during the initial climb, causing rapid loss of turn and descent.
As a result, the AI171 was one of the deadliest air accidents in recent Indian history, which required a thorough international investigation of technical factors that could contribute to tragedy.

FOIA request to access Air India AI171 Access Accessor for Flight Data
Attorney Mike Andrews has now filed a formal FOIA petition with the US Aviation Authorities to ensure FDR for an independent examination. He claims that the accident could have been caused by a hidden technical error than pilot events.
Andrews explained: “Our evidence is increasingly suggesting that the water leakage from the drinking water system of the aircraft could cause an electric short circuit, leading to the critical failures of the system on board AI171.”
He also claimed that the short circuit could automatically turn off the fuel control and cut off the drive to both engines. “If it was true, it would mean that the loss of the turn was the result of a system failure, not a flight crew error,” he added.

FAA FAA Directive emphasizes the risks of water leakage
The Andrews argument is supported by the recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air -wortiness (AD) released on May 14, which specifically warned operators of the Boeing 787 aircraft on potential water leakage from poorly installed links.
The FAA Directive emphasizes that water leaks from the drinking water system can penetrate the bays of electronic equipment (EE), flight control systems in a critical zone and avionics.
The Faa Staved: “The Faa Is Adopting and New Airworthiness Directive (AD) for Certain the Boeing Company Model 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10 Airplanes. This ad wasted by reports of Water Leakage from Leaking Into the Electronics Equipment (EE) Bays from Above The Floor in the Main Cabin, Resulting in Water on the EEC Bays.
According to the Directive, such leaks “could cause the EE bays to soak, resulting in an electrical short and potential loss of system functions necessary for a safe flight.”

In order to alleviate this risks, FAA orders all airlines to operate these aircraft to check the traces of seats above the EE bays to make signs of missing or damaged sealants, moisture barrier tape and other protective components.
Boeing 787 Dreamliner under fresh control
The aircraft involved in the AI171 crash was the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, one of the models specifically listed in the FAA directive. This has intensified control over the standards of Boeing’s production and maintenance, already in a global examination due to several recent incidents including 787 fleets.
Andrews stressed that the timing of the FAA Directive – issued just a few weeks before Ahmedabad – raises serious questions.
“The presence of water leakage and abbreviation potential have already been identified by FAA. It is decisive to explore whether the tragedy AI171 was the result of known but unresolved design errors,” he said.
Families of victims AI -171 require transparency, justice
Families of victims expressed frustrations from the delay in access to key data and evidence related to the accident, and reported. They gathered behind Andrews’ request Foia and sought transparency in the investigation process.
The pressure of the American prosecutor about access to the black box could significantly affect the direction of the ongoing investigation. If a short circuit theory is proven, it could avert the responsibility of the flight crew and place it directly on systemic maintenance or production problems.
As the investigation continues, the Indian regulatory bodies AAIB and international air regulators will face growing pressure to release all relevant data and address potential safety risks in the Global Boeing 787 fleet.
