US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday responded to a car explosion in Delhi near Red Fort that killed at least 13 people, calling it a terrorist attack.
Rubio noted this while speaking in Canada and also praised India for the ongoing investigation, calling it “very measured” and “very professional”.
On Wednesday, the government called the blast a “heinous terrorist incident” and ordered investigating authorities to handle the case with “utmost urgency and professionalism.”
“Yes, we’re aware of the potential that it has. But I think the Indians are — to be commended; they’ve been very measured and careful and very professional in how they’re conducting this investigation,” Rubio said.
Rubio went on to say that it was a terrorist attack, adding, “It was a car loaded with highly explosive materials that exploded and killed a lot of people.
“We’re aware of the potential that it has — the potential that it has to become something broader. But I think we’ll wait and see what their investigation reveals,” Rubio said.
The foreign minister said the US had offered to help, adding: “I think they’re very capable in these investigations. They don’t need our help. They’re doing a good job.”
