An ambulance was set on fire and another damaged in incidents believed to be the result of a clash between workers of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI (M) at Nedumangadu in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district, police said on Monday (October 20, 2025).
According to the Nedumangad police, tension erupted in the area after SDPI activists allegedly attacked a local CPI(M) leader on Sunday (October 19, 2025) evening.
Later, unknown persons allegedly targeted the houses of SDPI workers. Masked individuals were seen damaging an ambulance and a car owned by an SDPI activist on Sunday (October 19, 2025) night, police said.
In a suspected retaliatory move, an ambulance operated by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI(M), parked near a government hospital was set on fire early Monday morning (October 20, 2025).
Police said an investigation was underway to determine whether the attacks were the result of a previous clash and to identify those involved.
Patrolling activities have also been stepped up to prevent further clashes in the area, police added.
