
The RT Nagar police on Tuesday arrested an ambulance driver and his friend for allegedly attacking a PU student with a knife in the university campus on Saturday over a trivial argument.
The victim, a student of II PU at a private college in RT Nagar, First Block, was treated at a hospital before lodging a police complaint on Tuesday.
Based on a tip-off, the police arrested the accused within 24 hours. The accused, identified as Prabhudev, an ambulance driver, and Ganesh, a kitchen staff at the hotel, were charged with assault with dangerous weapons and under the Arms Act, police said.
Probe revealed that the accused was a former student of the college and he was said to be upset over the way the victim was talking to a girl in the college with whom the accused was close. The defendant dropped out of college and began working as an ambulance driver, police said.
The pair have been remanded in judicial custody and further investigations are underway. Police verified the girl’s possible involvement and determined that she was unaware of the incident.
