Ambulance driver arrested for misusing siren

February 3, 2026

The Sadashivanagar traffic police on Saturday arrested a 30-year-old ambulance driver for allegedly misusing the siren to get a free pass for personal work.

Accused Mohan Kumar, a resident of Banashankari III Stage and an employee of a private hospital, allegedly drove the ambulance in a rash manner with the siren on along New BEL Road while heading towards Sadashivanagar Police Station.

The police officers on duty became suspicious and detained the ambulance. Upon inspection, they found that there was no patient in the vehicle. During interrogation, Kumar claimed that he was in a hurry to pick up a sick patient. However, the claim was later verified and found to be false, police said. Upon enquiry, it was found that he was heading home for personal work.

Strongly objecting to the misuse of emergency equipment, the police detained the ambulance and detained the driver. A criminal case under Section 285 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against him for causing danger and obstruction on public road.

Police also seized the driver’s license and handed it over to the Department of Transportation with a recommendation for suspension.

“This is the second such case we have registered and it should serve as a lesson to others who abuse emergency measures,” said a senior police officer, adding that some drivers misuse sirens and overhead lights, especially at night, to fool traffic personnel.
