The City Crime Crime Ahmedabad branch arrested one person and confiscated 2 kg Jambergris – a rare and forbidden substance derived from sperm whales – worth approximately 2 crore on the international market.
The operation was done on a tip, which led to a raid near the road at Meghani Nagar airport, the police said. The accused, identified as Raju alias Rajesh Punamchand Marwadi (43), the inhabitants of Kalapinagar in Ahmedabad, was detained by illegal consumption.
Ambergris, colloqually known as “Whale of Vomiting”, is a highly valuable component in luxury perfumes, but is banned according to the Act on the Protection of Wild Animals in India. The preliminary investigation revealed that the confiscated smuggling smuggling was delivered a collaborator based in Bombai Ganesh Bachhraj Marwadi, who is currently running.
The case was registered and the officials stated that there were efforts to monitor other members of the smuggling network involved in illegal trade in wild animals.
