Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA) Central University of Karnataka (CUK) has written to all Members of Parliament from Karnataka seeking their intervention in connection with the alleged widespread violation of reservation norms and manipulation of post-based roster in faculty and non-teaching recruitments at the university.
In a statement on December 13, the student body alleged that the current administration under Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayan had changed the 200-point reservation list to post-based in violation of government norms, thereby curtailing opportunities for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
The association said CUK, the only central university in the state, located in the educationally backward district of Kalaburagi, was established to serve as an academic hub for marginalized regions. It argued that this goal was undermined by “partisan administrative decisions” and the deliberate manipulation of the candidate list to accommodate favored candidates, seriously compromising social justice and institutional integrity.
According to the representation, more than 80 teaching positions across the ranks of professor, associate professor and assistant professor have already been filled using the so-called “manipulated list”. In addition, more than 50 other posts were reportedly notified based on the same amended list, the association claimed.
The student body alleged that the alleged violations amounted to denial of constitutionally guaranteed exclusive rights under Articles 14, 16(4), 16(4A) and 335 of the Constitution, particularly affecting the SC, ST and OBC communities.
Seeking immediate remedial action, the ASA urged MPs to raise the matter in Parliament and seek a judicial inquiry or a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities. It also requests that all ongoing and proposed recruitment processes at the university be suspended until a thorough investigation into the schedule violation is completed.
A detailed note along with 13 annexures containing documentary evidence was attached to the representation for examination and further action.
