The leader of the YSR (YSRCP) Nagarjun Meruga criticized the government policy of acquiring land and accused the main Minister N. Chandrababa of Naid of threat to farmers on behalf of industrial development.
Nagarjuna, who addressed the media at the party office, condemned the “violent and unfair” attempt to obtain nearly 8,000 acres of agricultural land in the Prakasam district allegedly without the consent of the agricultural community.
“The approach of the government shows the obvious ignoring the rights of farmers and democratic principles,” he said, adding: “This kind of coercive policy risks that in rural Andhra risks extensive riots.”
He accused the government of targeting fertile agricultural land instead of deciding on the available infertile or unused countries, and warning that any attempt to intimidate or evict farmers forcibly encountered harsh resistance.
“YSRCP will not be silent. If it continues, we will start a nationwide agitation to defend the rights of farmers,” he said.
Mr. Nagarjuna also accused the government of trying to provoke conflict and instability in rural communities and said that these actions had betrayed people’s trust. He demanded transparency in the land acquisition process and insisted that no further steps were taken without meaningful public consultations.
