Work related to the beautification and expansion of green cover in the capital Amaravati will begin from the end of January 2026, according to Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana.
Addressing the media after reviewing the development works with Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) officials in Rayapudi on Wednesday, he unveiled elaborate plans to transform Amaravati into a “green, recreationally rich and eco-sustainable capital”.
Mr. Narayana said the Amaravati master plan has earmarked 30% of its 217 sq km area for blue-green zones, including water bodies, parks and ecological landscapes. “Green corridors covering 640 km both ways and 450 km in the middle will be built along 34 major roads,” he said.
The buffer zones on 22 major roads would get 133 km of plantation avenues, while 1,244 km of greenery was planned around the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) areas, he said. A 190-acre public recreational park at Shakamur and a 21-acre facility near Malkapuram would offer leisure facilities. A 31-acre lung space park was to come up at Anantavaram, while a 200-acre biodiversity park was planned at Kuragall.
Regarding LPS, the minister said that out of 69,421 plots allotted to 29,233 farmers, 7,743 plots for 2,168 farmers are pending registration. “A special cell will be set up in the CRDA office to address farmers’ concerns. The government has started basic infrastructure work in major villages worth ₹900 crore and surveys are underway,” he added.
Purchase of land
Mr. Narayana urged the farmers who did not participate in the LPS in the first phase to come forward as otherwise the government would get the required land under the Land Acquisition Act.
“The second phase of land pooling of 16,666 acres has started for railway lines, railway station, ring road and sports city, while additional land will be required for international airport and smart industry,” he said.
