After missing two back-to-back matches in the Women’s ODI World Cup, it looks like Australia captain Alyssa Healy might not make it to the semi-finals of the tournament either. Healy, who has been out of the team’s playing XI since their meeting with England on October 22, is still recovering from the injury.
The Australian captain suffered a calf strain in training after the team’s match against Bangladesh. Healy was in incredible form earlier in the World Cup, scoring centuries against India and Bangladesh in Vizag.

Australia head coach Shelley Nitschke was asked about the captain’s fitness at the post-match press conference after the team’s dominant win over South Africa on Saturday. Nitschke said Healy was being assessed at the moment and that Australia hoped she would be fit to play in the semi-final against India. However, there was a hint of doubt in her tone when she mentioned that the final decision will be made closer to the game in Navi Mumbai.
“Obviously she wasn’t quite ready tonight, but she’ll continue to be evaluated. We’re really hoping for a semi-final, but that’s still a few days away. We’re hopeful again and it’s only going to continue as we get closer to the game,” Australia head coach Shelley Nitschke said at a press conference.
Speaking about the upcoming match against India, Nitschke praised the hosts as a strong opposition and acknowledged that Australia have a big challenge ahead of them. The two teams played a thrilling encounter in the group stage where Australia successfully chased down a record target of 331 in a World Cup game. Healy was named Player of the Match for her outstanding innings of 142 off 107 balls.
India will face Australia in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup on October 30.
