Alleged theft in Palarivattom: police nab six accused, one wanted

The Palarivattom police, who are investigating alleged dacoits at a rented residence of a group of migrant workers, have arrested six people in connection with the case, police said on Saturday (Sep 19, 2026). Another accused is being sought.

Police have not released the identities of those arrested as they are awaiting an identification parade with the victims. The six were nabbed from different places in the state, police said.

They added that five of the accused were directly involved in the alleged dacoity, while investigation revealed that the crime was planned and committed by two others who were allegedly running an illegal business in Palarivattom.

The police said that the accused dispersed to different places after committing the dacoity and police teams were deployed at different places including Kottayam, Palakkad and Kollam. Some of the accused tried to flee to Assam, the police added.

“The previous criminal history of the accused was verified and five detainees were found to have previous criminal cases. The investigation is aimed at establishing the individual role of each accused, apprehending the remaining accused and recovering the remaining stolen property,” the police said in a statement.

The case relates to an alleged incident on 17 September 2026, where a five-member gang robbed seven migrant workers, including three women, of ₹1,20,000 in cash, 10 mobile phones worth around ₹3,05,000, gold ornaments and other valuables. Mobile phones and some of the stolen money were recovered from the accused, police said. The defendant allegedly stripped the victims while searching for ornaments.
