After that, the number of Lok Sabha seats in all states will be increased by half delineationand no state will lose its present proportional strength in Parliament, a senior government official told The Hindu on Wednesday (April 15, 2026). He said Home Minister Amit Shah would clarify this in Parliament when the debate on the Constitution (131st Amendment) and the Delimitation Bill begins on Thursday (April 16, 2026).
The bills have raised concerns that states that have stabilized their populations will lose their relative strength when the composition of the Lok Sabha is redistributed among the states as per the latest census figures.
