Arsenal Eye Alexander Isak, But Benjamin Sesko Likely the Priority
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, according to journalist Charles Watts. However, Watts suggests that a deal for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is far more probable, as he revealed in his latest Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside.
Isak has been in sensational form for Newcastle this season, showcasing his quality once again in their Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool. The Swedish international is a clinical finisher with pace and technical ability, making him an ideal fit for top clubs across Europe. His profile aligns perfectly with what Arsenal are missing in their attack, but Watts remains skeptical about the Gunners’ chances of securing his signature.
Isak on Arsenal’s Radar, But Sesko More Feasible
Watts acknowledged that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of Isak and that the club would be willing to make a significant push for the striker this summer if the opportunity arises. However, he emphasized that Newcastle’s strong position makes a deal unlikely.
“The Alexander Isak talk is not going to go away,” Watts wrote. “Every time he performs well, speculation about a move to Arsenal resurfaces, as it did after Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final win at Wembley. Arsenal would love to sign him, and Arteta admires him greatly. If the chance arises this summer, the club would likely go all out to make it happen. But I just don’t see it happening.”
Watts also dismissed the idea that Newcastle’s potential failure to qualify for the Champions League could open the door for Isak’s departure. “Even if Newcastle miss out on the Champions League, I consider it extremely unlikely they would sell him. They don’t need to. He’s on a long-term contract, and even if he refuses to discuss an extension, there’s no pressure to let him go. It would take a monumental offer to tempt Newcastle, and I can’t see Arsenal reaching that figure.”
Sesko the More Likely Target
Instead, Watts believes Benjamin Sesko is the more realistic option for Arsenal. The Slovenian striker has been on the club’s radar for some time, and RB Leipzig are reportedly open to negotiating a deal this summer.
“I’ve said it before, and I still think Sesko is the far more likely option for Arsenal this summer,” Watts added. “The club has done a lot of groundwork on him, and Leipzig are willing to do business, unlike Newcastle.”
While Isak remains a dream target for Arsenal, the practicalities of the transfer market suggest Sesko could be the striker heading to the Emirates in the coming months.
