Nine out of the top 10 men in the world and nine out of the top ten women officially entered the redED doubled competition from the USA, the organizers of the tournament said on Tuesday and the former Single champions Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducan joined.
The competition, which will take place a week before the main draw of singles during its “Week of Fans”, will give the winning team $ 1 million for money.
Sixteen teams entered and the entrance window will close on July 28, after the eight best teams with the best combined singles ranking will be in a draw direct admission, with another eight surrogate brands.
“In our initial discussions about reimagining and promoting the Mixled Doubles Championship, we wanted to find a way to show the best men and women in the world who compete and against each other,” said Usta, Lew Sherr.
“We were sure that we would be able to get the best players in the game enthusiastic about this unique opportunity. When we saw teams that have already inserted their names on the list of entry, we will be incredibly excited.
“It shows that players are behind what we are trying to do, and we know that fans will love it.”
Other couples include the US Open Champion Naomi Osaka, which connects to Nick Kyrgios, as well as Paula Bados and Stefanos Titsipas.
The matches will be the best of three sets, with short sets for four games, scoring No Ad, Tiebreakers on four-wing and 10-point tiebreak instead of the third set. The final will be the best of three games for six games.
Although there have been a number of big names such as Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatlek and Naomi Osaka, the format came from famous doubles.
The ruling champions of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori said that the new format was “deep injustice” that does not respect players and describes a new event as “pseudo-Exhibition focused only on entertainment and show”.
The US Open said that the changes were made after the success of the “Mixed Madness” exhibition event, which took place before last year’s tournament, which paired a number of high -ranking singles to teams.
“The decision of just the logic of profit is deeply bad in some situations,” said the Italians Errani and Vavassori.
The couple entered the competition this year.
