The district unit of Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha and its women’s wing will celebrate Akka Mahadevi Jayanti in Kalaburagi on April 4.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, district president of the women’s wing of the mahasabha Nalini Mahagaonkar said the program aims to commemorate the life and teachings of the 12th century social reformer and poet Akka Mahadevi.
President Sharanabasaveshwara Vidya Vardhak Sangha Dakshayini S. Appa will preside over the function.
Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura Vice-Chancellor Vijaya Korishetti will inaugurate the Jayanti Utsav.
Central University of Karnataka Head of Kannada Department Shivaganga Rumma will deliver a special lecture.
Chairperson of Reshmi Educational Institute Bharati Reshmi and Chairperson of Guarantee Program Implementation Committee Chandrika Parmeshwar will be the chief guests.
Five successful women from different fields will be awarded. They are Bhagyashree Sharanprakash Patil (Healthcare), Amareshwari Baburao Chinchansur (Business), Surekha Rajkumar (Agriculture), Parveen Sultana (Literature) and Mala Kanni (Social Service).
