Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday (April 16, 2026) asked the Union government to operationalize the Women’s Reservation Act only after the completion of the caste census, accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of reducing ‘nari’ (women) to a mere ‘nara’ (slogan).
Participating in a Lok Sabha debate on three bills seeking to amend the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and set up a delimitation commission, the Samajwadi Party chief alleged that the government was using the proposed amendments to delay the census while pushing for early delimitation.
