The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership in Murshidabad has filed a first information report against Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) president Humayun Kabir for allegedly threatening to harm the religious community during a rally on Friday (June 26, 2026).
Mr. Kabir, who is also an MLA, had courted controversy with his remarks at a rally in Rejinagar constituency.
“The FIR was filed by the youth wing of the BJP and the Ram Sita Sewa Mandir. The complaint was based on a viral video of a rally in which Mr. Kabir allegedly called for the mobilization of a certain religious community against another if they cross the border,” said an official from the Behrampur police station.
He issued a stern warning to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and demanded an immediate end to BJP’s political stranglehold on Murshidabad district. He said: “The day I mobilize and take the field, I will strike back so hard that there will be no one left to carry their party flag.”
This comes a day after a BJP leader from Malda’s English Bazar filed another FIR against Mr. Kabir for allegedly inciting religious tension.
