Tamil actor Ajith Kumar has become the latest celebrity in Chennai to receive a bomb threat. His residence on Chennai’s East Coast Road was under surveillance, according to multiple media reports.
This led to an immediate search by the bomb squad. Police have not yet released details of the explosive device mentioned in the threats or the identity of the sender. An investigation is underway. Meanwhile, India Today reported that the police are calling it a “hoax”.
The bomb threat to the Good Bad Ugly actor comes shortly after a similar email was sent to the DGP’s office. The email claimed that a bomb had been planted at actor Arun Vijay’s house in Ekkattuthangal.
A full scan was performed and no device was found. An investigation to trace the source of the email is ongoing.
In recent months, several Tamil film stars have been the target of bomb threats. Rajinikanth, Dhanush and Vijay have faced similar threats earlier.
Actresses Trisha and Nayanthara were also given similar warnings. Composer Ilaiyaraaja’s T Nagar studio faced a bomb hoax in October as well.
The bomb threat at Ajith Kumar’s residence comes as Delhi is still reeling from the November 10 massive blast near Red Fort.
12 killed in Delhi blast
According to PTI, the blast killed at least 12 people and injured several others on Monday. The explosion was so powerful that body parts were scattered all over the area. Some debris fell into the nearby Jain Mandir complex.
JP Mishra of the Jain Mandir Sports Club said residents were trying to help the injured. Rescue teams then arrived. Mishra recalled seeing dismembered bodies on the road.
Another resident, Karmayta Devi, said her family could not sleep all night because the blast felt like an earthquake. Her teenage son was traumatized after seeing the bodies. The terrifying scene shook the entire area.
“Our school is closed today. We could not sleep the whole night. I have never heard such a loud sound before,” PTI quoted 10-year-old Priya as saying.
Bomb threat for Arun Vijay
Last week, Tamil actor Arun Vijay’s residence in Chennai faced a bomb threat after an email was sent to the DGP’s office. Police officials from Ekkattuthangal station said that an email sent by an unknown person claimed that a bomb had been planted in the actor’s house.
Soon after receiving the alert, a bomb detection team and a large team of police personnel rushed to the spot. They conducted a detailed search in and around the house to ensure the actor’s safety.
The search continued for some time and officials confirmed that no explosive material was found. Police then launched an investigation to determine the origin of the email and identify the sender.
