Ajinkya Naik on Monday retained his position as Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president after seven other contenders in the fray withdrew their nominations.
MCA elections for additional posts in the Apex Council and office bearers will be held on Wednesday.
Today was the last day to download nominations.
Naik filed his nomination even though he was supposed to undergo a mandatory three-year cooling-off period after completing six consecutive years on the MCA Apex Council in line with the reforms introduced by the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee for the BCCI and its member associations.
Among the candidates who resigned were BJP MLC Prasad Lad, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Milind Narvekar and Nationalist Congress Party MLA Jitendra Awhad.
Both Awhad and Narvekar were members of the outgoing MCA supreme council and filed nominations for other posts as well.
The other candidates who stepped down were former Indian women’s captain Diana Edulji, outgoing T20 Mumbai League president Vihang Sarnaik, Suraj Samat and Shahalam Shaikh, former joint secretary.
Last year, Naik became the youngest MCA president at the age of 37, defeating Sanjay Naik by 107 votes.
According to the list released by the election official on Monday, Awhad will be up against Navin Shetty for the post of vice president and Unmesh Khanvilkar will be up against Shahalam Shaikh for the post of MCA secretary.
Nilesh Bhosale will be up against Gaurav Payyade for the post of joint secretary, while Arman Mallick, who was the treasurer in the erstwhile committee, will contest for a similar role in the election against Surendra Shewal.
Rajdip Gupta has been appointed chairman of the T20 Mumbai League, in which he also owns the North Mumbai Panthers.
