Air India has announced the resumption of its direct flights between Delhi and Shanghai (PVG) with effect from February 1, 2026, marking Air India’s return to mainland China after nearly six years, an official airline statement said.
Subject to required regulatory approvals, Air India intends to introduce non-stop flights between Mumbai and Shanghai in 2026, the statement said.
Shanghai is the 48th international destination served by the Air India group, which continues to carry more passengers internationally than any other airline in India.
Air India will fly four times a week between Delhi and Shanghai using its twin-aisle Boeing 787-8 aircraft with 18 lie-flat beds in business class and 238 spacious seats in economy class, the statement said.
The resumption of Air India services to Shanghai follows recent diplomatic agreements between India and China that restored air links suspended in early 2020. Air India first started non-stop flights to mainland China in October 2000.
Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, said, “The resumption of our Delhi-Shanghai service is more than just launching the route. It is a bridge between two great, ancient civilizations and modern economic powers. We at Air India are delighted to reconnect one of the most important air corridors in the world, enabling passengers to enjoy opportunities in business, commerce, healthcare and warm Indian culture,” with Air India’s statement as a comfort.
The renewed air connectivity is expected to further boost exchanges in pharmaceuticals, technology, education and several other areas.
Bookings for Air India flights between Delhi and Shanghai are being progressively opened across all channels, including the Air India website, mobile app, airport ticket offices, contact centers and through travel agencies worldwide, the statement added.
