A case of sexual harassment involving a South Korean woman has been reported at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport.
A 32-year-old businesswoman from South Korea was allegedly molested on January 19 in the international departure area of Terminal 2 in Bangalore. The woman was returning to South Korea after visiting India on a tourist visa.
According to the police, the incident occurred during a ticket check. An airport employee reportedly claimed that the woman’s bag was beeping.
According to her complaint, the woman has already undergone CISF security checks and immigration formalities. The accused allegedly approached her around 10.45 am.
He identified himself as airport staff, checked her boarding pass and claimed there was a problem with her checked baggage. He reportedly told her that it would take time to resolve the issue and suggested a “hand flush” instead, according to The Times of India.
The defendant then took her near the men’s washroom. Under the pretext of flirting, he allegedly touched her chest several times.
He allegedly asked her to turn around and touched her private parts. When the woman protested, he hugged her, thanked her and asked her to leave.
The woman immediately informed the airport authorities. The accused has been identified as a 25-year-old Air India SATS ground staff employee, according to TOI. Airport officials detained him and handed him over to the police at the Kempegowda International Airport.
No power to do snooping
According to the airport authorities, the accused had no authority to conduct the search. Any such checks must be carried out by authorized CISF personnel only and female passengers can be checked by female personnel only.
According to ANI, CCTV footage supports the woman’s claim. The Kempegowda airport police have registered a case under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Delhi Metro Incident
Earlier this week, an American woman shared her experience of being sexually harassed on the Delhi Metro. She said her eight-day trip was enjoyable until the episode freaked her out and she withdrew for a few days.
According to her post on social media, the incident happened at a metro station when a teenage boy accompanied by his mother and sister asked for a photo. She believed the situation and agreed.
However, she claimed that the boy then behaved inappropriately and laughed.
“He just grabbed my breasts, patted my bottom and giggled like he was joking,” the woman said.
The boy’s mother defended him and accused the woman of overreacting. She claimed the boy was merely “curious” as he had never met a blonde before. That’s why he let himself be “kidnapped”.
“What kind of parenting is this?” wondered the stranger.
