Air India resumed direct flights from India to Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel, on New Year’s Day on January 1. Earlier, Israel’s Ministry of Tourism said the direct flights were intended to provide a stimulus for tourism and economic exchange between the two nations.
In June 2025, the Tata Group-owned airline suspended all flights from India to Tel Aviv due to escalating tensions in the Middle East following Iranian missile strikes on a US base in Qatar. Air India announced the immediate suspension of all flights to the region and routes connecting the east coast of North America and Europe.
“Due to the evolving situation in the Middle East, Air India has suspended all operations to the region as well as from the East Coast of North America and Europe with immediate effect, until further notice,” an Air India spokesperson said in a statement issued at the time.
What is the frequency of Air India flights?
In November last year, Israel’s tourism ministry said the revived route would operate five flights a week from Sunday to Thursday using Air India’s modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The Tel Aviv flight will depart at 11:40 am and arrive in Delhi at 8:50 pm, while the Delhi flight will depart at 7:00 am and arrive in Tel Aviv at 9:55 am, facilitating further connections, Israel’s tourism ministry said, PTI reported.
‘Direct connection back…’
The Indian Embassy in Israel also released a report on the resumption of direct flights between Tel Aviv and India.
“The direct connection is back! Air India today resumes non-stop flights between Tel Aviv and Delhi. The Embassy of India wishes Air India the best of luck and encourages Indian and Israeli travelers to take advantage of this direct air connection between India and Israel,” the Indian Embassy said on X.
Earlier, the Israeli carrier Arkia Airlines also expressed great interest in resuming direct flights to India.
The Israeli carrier was evaluating the use of its Airbus A321neo LR long-haul aircraft on routes including Mumbai, Bengaluru and Goa, as reported by PTI.
“The return of Air India’s direct flights is a real game-changer and a huge win for us. This direct connection is our top priority for fuel tourism from India, making it easier than ever for Indian travelers to experience the rich culture, history and vibrant landscape of Israel. The added interest from Arkia only confirms the market’s momentum.
“We are ready to welcome Indian tourists with open arms and show why Israel is a must-visit destination,” said Galit Hoffman, Consul for Tourism Affairs, Israel Ministry of Tourism in India.
