All flight operations at Sardar VallaBhbhai International Airport Patel (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad were temporarily suspended after an incident with the Aviation India accident. The authorities have confirmed that no flights will be able to arrive or leave the airport “until the next announcement”.
“The AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London, Gatwick, earlier, was involved in the accident shortly after take -off, outside the airport.
“Passengers are advised to check for the latest update before continuing to the airport. We are asking for your cooperation and patience because the authorities control this evolving situation,” he added.
Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani between passengers on flight tied to London
Former Minister Gujarat Vijay Rupani is confirmed that he is one of the passengers on board Air India Flight AI 171, Hindustan Times said. Flight, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed into a residential area in Meghani Nagar shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport at 13:38.
The accident occurred approximately five minutes after departure. Under the command of Captain Sumit Sabharwal, the aircraft served as a co-pilot. There were 230 passengers on board, including 230 adults and two infants, along with 12 crew members, a total of 242 people.
Who is Vijay Rupani?
Vijay Rupani is an Indian politician who served as the 16th Minister Gujarat from August 2016 to September 2021.
He was born on August 2, 1956 in Yangon (now Yangon, Myanmar) and was a prominent leader of Bharatiya Janata (BJP).
Rupani’s political career takes several decades, during which he held various key positions, including the mayor of Rajkot (1996–1997), a member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha (2006–2012) and Gujaratian state Minister of Cabinet, who supervised portfolies such as transport, work and water supply.
