Dense fog is expected to continue to blanket the state capital on Wednesday, which is New Year’s Eve, leading to reduced visibility. In light of the conditions, several airlines have issued alerts urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
In a post on X, IndiGO, India’s largest and most dominant airline, wrote: Dense fog continues to persist over the northern belt, causing reduced visibility and continued disruption to flight schedules.

Tata Group-owned Air India said: “With dense fog and low visibility forecast in Delhi and northern India tomorrow morning, we expect impacts on flight schedules and potential cascading delays across our network. We are monitoring the situation closely and have taken proactive measures to minimize inconvenience to our passengers (for more information on our disruption management initiatives, see here (http://bit.ly/4agYVyF)(http://bit.ly/4agYVyF)).
This includes the planned cancellation of some morning flights most likely to be affected by the fog, with advance notice to passengers to avoid long and uncertain waits at airports. In the event of any unexpected flight delays, diversions or cancellations, our airport teams will remain available to provide the necessary assistance and support.”
Meanwhile, the aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has designated the period from December 10 to February 10, 2026 as the official fog period, warning that fog-related disruptions are likely to continue to be frequent during this period.
What is the weather forecast for Delhi?
The Meteorological Agency has predicted light to dense fog on Tuesday morning. Temperatures in the capital are expected to range from a high of around 23 degrees Celsius to a low of around 8 degrees Celsius. The Met Office has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rain on New Year’s Day.
A fog warning has also been issued for several regions including Haryana, Chandigarh, Odisha, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and many other parts of the country till the morning of December 31.
