
Air India, Indigo and SpiceJet on Friday, November 7 warned of delays and longer waiting times as the Delhi airport faced a technical glitch, with at least 100 flights delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the morning.
Reaching out to X, Delhi Airport said: “Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight delays are occurring at IGIA. Their team is actively working with all stakeholders, including DIAL, to resolve this as soon as possible. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with the respective airlines for the latest flight updates. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused.”
“Flight operations at Delhi airport are delayed due to a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports air traffic control data. Controllers are processing flight plans manually, resulting in some delays. Technical teams are working to restore the system as quickly as possible. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all passengers and stakeholders,” the Airports Authority of India said.
What did the airlines say?
Air India mentioned that a technical issue with the ATC system in Delhi is affecting flight operations, resulting in delays and longer waiting times at the airport.
“We regret the inconvenience caused by this unforeseeable disruption, which is beyond our control, and appreciate your patience. Our cabin crew and airport ground staff are extending immediate assistance to minimize inconvenience to passengers,” it said.
Indigo also issued a travel alert: “Flight operations at #Delhi Airport are currently delayed due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. As a result, air traffic in Delhi and several northern regions is affected. We understand that extended waiting times, both on the ground and on board, may cause inconvenience and we sincerely appreciate your utmost patience and your crew’s wait. As smooth as possible.”
“Flight operations at Delhi airport are currently affected by a technical issue with the air traffic control (ATC) system. This disruption is impacting flights over Delhi and several northern regions. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause. Our crew and ground teams are assisting passengers and working closely with authorities to minimize the impact and restore normal operations as soon as possible,” SpiceJet said.
Delhi’s IGIA, the country’s busiest airport, handles over 1,500 flights a day. According to PTI, data from flight-tracking website Flightradar24.com indicated that flight departures from the Delhi airport were delayed by about 50 minutes.
