
Tata Group-owned Air India said on Monday, February 2, 2026, that the aircraft operator grounded one of its Boeing 787-8 aircraft after the pilot reported a possible fault with the fuel control switch, according to an official response from the company.
In an official reply to Mint, an Air India spokesperson said that after the airline received information about a possible fault, the company grounded the aircraft and is now engaging Boeing to investigate the concerns on a priority basis.
“We are aware that one of our pilots has reported a possible fault with the fuel control switch on a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. After receiving this initial information, we have grounded the said aircraft and engaged the OEM to investigate the pilot’s concerns on a priority basis,” an Air India spokesperson said.

The airline also said that information about the same has been forwarded to the aviation regulatory authority, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), following the pilot’s apprehension.
According to the airline’s response, Air India had earlier checked all fuel control switches on all Boeing 787 aircraft in its fleet in accordance with the DGCA directive.
The company also assured its passengers that the safety of all people on board, including the crew, remains Air India’s top priority.
“The matter has been brought to the notice of the aviation regulator DGCA. Air India has checked the fuel control switches on all Boeing 787 aircraft in its fleet as directed by the DGCA and found no issues. At Air India, the safety of our passengers and crew remains the highest priority,” the spokesperson said.
