A preliminary report on the AII-171 Air-171 crash in the cockpit and revealed how “01 seconds” forced the pilot to release Mayday. The report claimed that both fuel control switches were moved from the “run” position to the “cut-off” position in just a second.
The fuel supply to the engine is controlled by two switches in the flight deck. Each switch is equipped with a blocking mechanism to prevent accidental movement, experts were quoted by the New York Times as a proverb.
In order to turn on the fuel power, the switch must be pulled out and then moved to the “run” position, where it is released and settled back to the locked position. To turn off the fuel power, the switch must be pulled out, moved to the “marginal” position and then re -released.
“01 seconds” that led to the call Mayday
The preliminary report states that Air India, which traveled from Ahmedabad to London 12 June, reached a maximum recorded speed of 180 nodes IAS around 08:08:42 UTC.
“Immediately afterwards, engine fuel switches 1 and 2 switched from running to position after a second with a time space of 01 seconds,” she said.
“In the voice recording of the cockpit one of the pilots to ask the other why he limited himself. The second pilot replied that he did not do so,” the report says in detail.
Beginning about 10 seconds after the fuel was cut off at 171 flight shows the data recorder, the switches have been moved to turn the fuel on. However, the aircraft could not gain energy quickly enough to stop its descent.
The preliminary report revealed that, according to the improved air recorder (EAFR), fuel switch 1 switched from the marginal ranking to running around 08:08:52 UTC.
Four seconds later, at 08:08:56 UTC, the engine fuel switch also passes from marginal traffic.
Soon, after nine seconds, at 08:09:05, one of the pilots transferred “Mayday Mayday Mayday” to air traffic control officers on Earth.
“The EAFR record stopped at 08:09:11 UTC,” the report said.
Officers did not receive any answer and shortly afterwards they saw the plane collapsed.
The report said at 08:14:44 UTC: “Crash Fire left the premises of the airport for rescue and firefighting.
