In the midst of an airline Air India, which occurred on June 12 at Ahmedabad kills 241 on board, DRF-ASP and Nodal officer Sheeetal Gujar revealed that the rescue staff entered the hostel building, including wet substances wrapped around their hands.
While he emphasizes his bravery, SDRF-ASP said that they were given all the tools needed to perform rescue operations and mentioned that the intensive heat at the accident site caused it to be extremely dangerous to perform rescue operations immediately after the impact.
“SDr played an important role in the evacuation of those who were trapped inside the building. We went inside with oxygen masks. The hands and legs of many of them were burned, but to save them, we tied our hands with wet clothes to lift their bodies.
He added: “At that time it was very risky to go inside and perform rescue operations because the temperature was very high. The fire brigade ensured that our team would enter the building. We evacuated civilians and students inside the hostel.
He also mentioned that ensuring the safety of citizens and avoiding greater damage was the highest focus of SDRF. “70-80 % of the operations are performed by SDRF … We also try to secure the area to make sure there is no further damage,” Gujar concluded.
Meanwhile, 80 victims were recognized through DNA match, including former main Minister Gujarat Vijay Rupani. The officials also stated that 33 bodies were handed over to the families of the victims, PTI reported.
Members of the victim’s family speak
Rinal Christian, 23, whose older brother was on board the flight, said AFP: “They said it would take 48 hours. But it was four days and we got no answer.” “My brother was the only breadwinner,” said Christian, a family member of another passenger, then asked, “So what happens next?” Ali, who waited in the hospital for the DNA to find his brother, said, “I’m disappointed in them. It’s their duty. The next step is to find out the reason for this accident. We need to know.”
